Studies to become a school teacher for children aged 2 to 11

The CRPE, or recruitment competition for school teachers, allows you to teach in nursery and primary schools, with 24 hours of weekly presence in front of students and 108 hours per year of teamwork, additional educational activities and participation in the school council.

In the 2022 session, out of the 41,641 registered for the external CRPE competition, 8,158 candidates were declared successful for 8,323 available positions.

To become a teacher, the first step is to obtain a bachelor’s degree. All disciplines are eligible, but it’s best to focus on a subject taught in primary or secondary schools (literature, mathematics, history and geography, languages, science, etc.).

From the bachelor’s degree level, courses or options for preparing for teaching careers can be offered to students who wish to pursue this path.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree (bac+3), the second step is to follow the MEEF master’s course. This course integrates into its practical teaching a preparation for the CRPE (organized at the end of the second year of the master’s degree).

Once you pass the competitive exam, you will complete a one-year internship in one of the departments of the academy in which you were recruited. This year of training is paid.

Final step: during the internship year, each person expresses their wishes for their first assignment as a full professor if the internship evaluation is positive.
