Choosing a school

For the vast majority of you, choosing a good school means choosing a recognized establishment, laden with certifications and other labels. These are certainly important, but they are not the only criteria on which your choice should be based. Explanations.

Discover the training courses and their establishments

The “must” when it comes to engineering schools is the title accredited by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur (CTI). The reason is simple: any engineering diploma accredited by the CTI automatically gives the right to a master’s degree (bac+5).

But be careful, just because a school is accredited by the CTI does not mean it is recognized by the State!

State recognition is only granted after the quality of teaching, administration, management and financial balances has been checked. In addition to the assurance of studying in a reputable establishment , it gives – a significant detail – the possibility for students to obtain a higher education grant and to benefit from the student social security system.

Other references to check before committing: registration in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP, see box) and the ISO 9001 standard . Although it is more aimed at businesses, the latter guarantees that the schools that are certified have had to revise all of their programs in order to put in place precise and definitive procedures .

Registration with the RNCP: a significant reference to be seriously studied

Created by the law on social modernization of January 17, 2002, consulting the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP) allows: – to know if a certification benefits from state recognition, – to know the level of qualification certified by the diploma, title or certificate, – to obtain information on the types of jobs accessible to the holder of the title, diploma or certificate.

And what about professional integration in all this?

Choosing a school based on its reputation or its multiple visas or recognitions is not the only way to proceed. This would be to miss many other criteria. Today, recruiters are looking for graduates who are certainly qualified, but above all already familiar with professional life.

So, to be able to sell yourself to them, there is only one solution: multiply internships, missions and professional projects . When choosing the establishment where you will follow the training that corresponds to your professional project, therefore observe everything that directly or indirectly relates

Because keep in mind that even if some schools do not issue an official engineering title , they can, however, have record professional integration of their graduates! Conclusion: the title or the reputation are not necessarily the elements taken into account by recruiters! Choosing a training establishment is therefore far from being an easy task.
